The tradition: after spending the day celebrating Kalia's birthday, we dump them at the babysitters and head out to the Valentine's Dance. This year was no different. We had our Valentine's date Saturday night by attending the Grad Student Valentines Ball at a steal of a deal. $10 a person bought dinner, drinks (ahem), and dancing. The food was delicious though I would have seriously enjoyed my dessert more sans headache. Funny enough, the loud music we danced to didn't cause said headache to worsen, hmmm. We were able to see many familiar faces and enjoyed meeting new people. We ate dinner with a couple from the ward that spread word of the event, two couples in the same program and a random daring couple that sat at a table not knowing anyone. Tristan enjoyed conversing with the vet and med students during the meal. Following the food there were presentations of the tango and the foxtrot in honor of John Glenn as well as a photo montage of his relationship with his wife. They had to tie in Valentines Day somehow, right? Tango? Well, it was in honor of all the Tang they have in space. The foxtrot is just time period. We had a blast trying to remember how to dance and who is supposed to lead. I wish so much that we could find a way to practice more often. Maybe we'd actually remember how to dance before the event instead of spending the whole time trying to get in sync. We loved every minute and wore ourselves out. We headed home about 10:15 to retrieve the children from the babysitter and go to sleep.
ON the actual Valentines Day the girls and I spend the day playing. Kalia got some fun Valentine packages in the mail, including the Sweethearts I'd talked myself out of buying. We loved getting our Valentines mail! I made heart-shaped meatloaf iced with ketchup with mash potatoes, beans and carrots for dinner. Then we spent the evening sans kids cuddling on the couch watching Arrested Development. Couldn't have been better.
