Today's Adventure

Tristan was in the kitchen making a snack after school today.  I was feeding Amalyn mush in her high chair by the couch and Kalia was running around excited that Daddy was home.  Suddenly, she comes running to me "poopy, poopy!"
me: "It's ok, go to the potty"
Kalia: "No! In kitchen!"
me: "You went poopy in the kitchen?"
At which point Tristan interjected "It's not poopy! It's tasty!"in reference to the nutella he was spreading on his bread.  He then tried to give her a taste.  Kalia ran away "No! No! Poopy, No poopy!"
me: "It's chocolate."
Kalia:"No poopy"
Only after mommy took a taste would she believe us.
Then she asked for more.

She did it!

I have been waiting FOREVER for Amalyn to get rolling figured out.  But she's exactly like her sister, a few random tummy to back rolls at 4 months then nothing until 6 months.  Yesterday morning Amalyn rolled from her tummy to her back, and she was PROUD of herself.  She gave me the biggest grin (now a second little tooth through the gums).  This kid's been busy.  Being this adorable must take a lot of energy as she's been sleeping a lot.  Happy mama!

just so you know

There are some new posts mixed in with some that have been on here a while because I back date things.  Do a little looking to see some quirky toddler and adorable baby pics!  You can pull up the April posts in the archives and find them all there.

Naptime?

or Reading-Time?

Why not do both?

I love that she enjoys books so much!  She's starting to 'read' when she looks at the books and will entertain herself by 'reading' to Amalyn.  Great for the dinner prep-time!

I like it when....

my little girl listens!  I told Kalia that I like it when she says "OK" and I've heard it more in the last three days then ever before!  This attitude improvement has been much enjoyed.  Maybe the better naps recently or the more positive mommy attitude are responsible.  I don't know but I like it!

rain and worms

It's been nice and stormy this spring.  I took Kalia outside after her nap with a pin wheel and discovered we had worms all over our sidewalks.  We shifted gears and started talking about what worms are, where they live, why they were on the side walk.  Then we moved the worms back to the dirt to go home.  At first Kalia walked away and loudly protested when I tried to hand her one.  She did think it was ok for mommy to pick up the worm.  After we rescued three or four and watched them burrow into the grass, I did manage to get her to hold one.  She was very gentle and placed it in the grass.  Her bravery was short lived as the next time I tried to have her hold one, she dropped it and told me "mommy's" and "there" "grass."  She did enjoy watching the worms and wanted to find more.

Family Home evening - temples

Temples have been pretty prominent in Kalia's life.  Her favorite song is the "temple song"and she recognizes pictures of them.  We talk about them and she knows that people go there.  One of the couples for our babysitting group went to a session the last time we watched and their little boy talked about mommy and daddy going to the temple.  Kalia picked up on that and started telling us she wanted to go to the temple.  We thought this would work perfectly for family home evening.  So Monday night we picked up some free frozen custard sundaes from Culver's (late birthday coupons for both Kalia and I) and drove to the temple.  It was chilly and we didn't linger much after our ice cream was gone.  We talked about the temple. That families are sealed there.  Kalia can go inside when she's twelve.  It's Jesus's house and there's and angel at the top.  We are so grateful for the temple being so close to us that we can show our children!

reading scriptures

We've been working on reading scriptures with Kalia at night.  We are almost done with the illustrated Old Testament stories and we just purchased the other three to complete our set.

Amalyn loves it!

Kalia has to see the pictures of the baby every time.  What a loving little girl.

We've arrived

At the age of funny kid sayings.  I'm so excited to share!

Driving in the car today:
Kalia: "Mommy, What you doing?"
Me: Sitting.
Kalia: "Daddy, What you doing?"
Tristan: "Driving."
Me: "Kalia, What are you doing?"
Kalia: "Eating."
Me: "What are you eating?"
Kalia: "coat."
Me: "Oh, does it taste good?"
Kalia: "yes. (Tristan translated here) Cinnamon."

Previously to this I'd been telling her not to chew on the collar of her coat, that it was yucky.

Spooky

Yesterday Amalyn's naps were pretty much nonexistent.  When I did finally get her put down I was praying it wouldn't translate into a sleepless night for all based on the truths of one: sleep begets sleep and two: a sleepless baby will continue to be sleepless.  Hallelujah!  She slept until 7:30 this morning! Huzzah!  Now if 7:30 becomes the new wake time, this momma would be thrilled.  I'd be thrilled even more if the resident toddler would also sleep through the night.  She came in about 12:45 and 1am.  It's sort of spooky.  You're asleep when suddenly you hear a soft little voice right by your ear "mommy?"  She's soundlessly escaped the bed and opened both her door and mine without a sound.  I guess it's nice that she doesn't have to scream everyone awake to have me come get her out of the crib, but its a bit nerve-wracking that she can leave at will.  Now that the doors are no longer a security she's got the run of the house.  I feel slightly worried she'll take off out the front door mid night, but that will only last as long as she can't reach to unlock the dead bolt.
