For the love of books

Kalia's Birthday Party

Goodies for the Chocolate Fountain.

I was pretty excited about my butterflies and bugs theme. Though the colors were not quite what I'd envisioned, it turned out pretty cute.

In a streak of brilliance I put the camera away and didn't get any shots of the party or opening gifts.  The kids had a blast playing with Kalia's awesome new kitchen she got from Mom and Dad.   From her friends she recieved a 101 piece plastic food (totally matched the kitchen and not planned at all), a princess crown with earrings and necklace, and a princess puzzle.  From family she got sandals and clothes (pretty darn cute summer stuff), elmo cooking set and camera, little people farm, animal cars, and a set of learning flashcards.  Thanks to all of you that sent us packages.  We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.  Thank You.

And I'm sorry there was problems with the invitations I sent.  We wish all of you could have been there!

Valentine's Day

This month has been pretty busy.  I decided that there are a lot of fun learning opportunities provided by holidays that Kalia can now start to understand.  The problem is that this idea hasn't gotten very developed in my mind before time ran out.  So, I did a pretty lame attempt at making this busy month pretty fun.

I was talking with my friend and she mentioned planning for the 14 days of Valentines and I thought that sounded like a lot of fun.  Especially after I googled it to get some more ideas.  We love quirky, cheesy, fun things so I began brainstorming to surprise Tristan.  My brain power was divided as I was also attempting to put together a fun birthday idea for Kalia, so my treats were pretty dumb.  I promise to do better next time, though I make no promise that it will be next year.  I think I'm going to leave a little mystery to whether or not it's going to happen.  As we are coming up on our 5th anniversary I thought it might be fun to make this year's Valentine's a little more memorable.  Tristan told me it's the first time he's looked forward to the holiday.  Mission accomplished.

Valentine's Breakfast for Dinner.

New Pajamas from Grama Elmer
I love that pot gut.  My girl can eat!

Amalyn is pretty slim and the pants don't fit around her waist.  I had to pull them up again and again.  They were completely off the next morning.

Kalia is 2

Stats:
weight: 25.19    29%
height: 32.75     20%

Clothing size: 18 mo, 24 mo, 2T we've got at all.

Favorite food: Kalia LOVES anything in the fruit category.  She eats pretty well for her age, always has.  Though I think I'm gonna have to get sneaky getting the veggies in there.  Sigh, I'd hoped this day would never come.  Kalia also has a tendency to pick one food off her plate that she just wants more of.  We use it as a bargaining tool to get her to eat other factors.  She really loves apple juice, apple sauce and macaroni and cheese.  She's pretty adventurous to keep up with her parents.

Favorite Toys: The new kitchen she got for her birthday, as well as her plastic food (thanks Englands!).  She loves baby doll and books.  This girl will be your friend forever if you'll read to her.

Favorite people: She loves her daddy.  Mama is ok too.  She's an awesome big sister and loves to show Amalyn things.  She loves playing with Ryan, Noah and Max and asks to go to their various houses pretty much all day long.

Sleeping: We were doing a pretty solid 12 hours at night until the big switch to the toddler bed.  She's still adjusting, but getting into more of a pattern.  Bedtime is anywhere from 7:30 to 8:30 and she usually wakes up between 7 and 8.  Naps are less frequent and varied.  Most days she doesn't take them.

Big accomplishments: big girl bed, peeing in the toilet (not just the little potty), speaking in sentences, and dressing herself.

Favorite games: Playing with daddy.  That might include running, blankets, blanket caves, reading books, riding the horse.  If I ask her where something is and she doesn't want to go get it she tells me it's sleeping.  She likes to pretend sleep and puts her baby (or tired parents) to sleep, including the "good night" at the door as she closes it.

Kalia is a very happy, smily girl.  I'm trying hard to catch her fun expressions.  She has some of the funniest faces.  I love watching her play.  I love that she wants hugs more often now.  I love watching her play with Amalyn and I can't wait for it to warm up so she can play outside with her bike.  She's pretty bossy to Saphira and very subdued around other kids.  Though she'll really get into games with her buddies.  She enjoys nursery and going to church.  She loves wearing dresses and asks if we're going to church every morning.

We decided to join netflix and Kalia has been introduced to television.  She loves Pingu, Shaun the Sheep and Kipper, though Tristan often puts on documentaries for her to watch.  She hasn't really been introduced to princesses yet, but I'm sure the day will come as we have most disney movies.

We went to see the pediatrician.  She said Kalia looked great.  She has a large vocabulary and seems to be doing well.  Kalia had a rough appointment.  She had to catch up on a few shots.  Apparently the pediatrician has a different shot schedule than a family doctor.  Kalia ended up getting 3 shots as well as a lead screening.  Poor kid.

Just for fun:  Here is Kalia 1 year ago.

Making a cake:

I was making a cake for friends that we were having over for dinner and decided to wear my new apron.  Kalia got a matching one and wanted to help.

Daddy surprised us.

Cooking is lots of fun

Cleaning up is the best part!

Kalia enjoyed it so much that she wanted to cook again today!  I think she's found a new fun game
