Kalia- two months

Kalia continues to grow. At her two month appointment she tipped the scale at 9 lbs 9 oz, moving her up to the 25th percentile. She also got the first round of vaccines. Daddy went to the doctor with us and helped hold her still while the mean nurses poked her. She received two shots in her right leg and one in the left. The left leg didn't bled but one of the shots on the right did. They put a cotton ball under the band aid. It made me sad to see her bleed. She cried but only for a minute or two. She stopped once she was cuddled in my arms. All the excitement sent her to sleep. She would make slight whimpers as she slept for the few minutes after while mom and dad talked to the doctor.

It seems that she's hit a growth spurt. She is spending more time awake during the day, but that also means she is wanting to eat more frequently. She's a pretty good sleeper, giving us a solid 6 to 8 hours of sleep most nights. I'm still working out her schedule. I have a pretty good idea, but it doesn't seem to work all the time. I would really like to start a bedtime routine as well as a set time for bed. But she's pretty cooperative to go to sleep provided she's sleepy enough. I guess I'm still learning.

Most of the time when I go to pick her up in the morning she greets me with a huge smile. That smile is showing up more frequently. She loves to talk to me and we'll coo and gurgle back and forth. She has started grabbing things when they come near her hands. I wore a necklace to church on Sunday for the first time in a long time. The first time I picked her up in my arms and her hand touched the metal she grabbed on. I'm going to have to watch that. Earrings will probably next. Ouch.

We have been on quite a few adventures. We've been to the mall a few times, the zoo, the library, an aquarium, and Ann Arbor. She's very excited to meet her family in a few months and have her first flight.

what we've been up to...

Life in the Parry home has been pretty good. Tristan has started a new quarter at OSU and so far is much more relaxed than last quarter. His classes are spaced out enough to give him pretty adequate study time during the day. He has less labs than last quarter. All in all it's been a better start than last quarter, thankfully.
But life isn't completely without it's stresses. We've been trying for quite a while to get medical coverage for Tristan through medicaid. He has episodes of discomfort with his PVC that we are hoping to get him checked out. That and we suspect a possible hernia. It's been a chore to try and get a hold of anyone and getting the correct information. I think we've finally got through after about a month of work. But I guess I really shouldn't complain since it's such good coverage and free.
We made a trip to Ann Arbor for Hunter Abernethy's first birthday party. It was a lot of fun spending time with the Abernethy's. We were able to watch (or attempt to, since I actually slept through a good portion) Conference. Kalia was terrific in the car (I hope my plane flight the end of May is as smooth). The three hour drive was a great opportunity for us to talk. I really enjoyed our discussion and games of twenty questions.
I think Saphira has finally accepted Kalia's presence. Two nights ago, Tristan was in the glider with a crying Kalia when Saphira came in rather concerned that the baby was upset. She came and gave her trademark "it's ok." head bump. We though it was pretty sweet.
In Liz's life:
This week I finished Fablehaven book four that we borrowed from our neighbors upstairs. I was so disappointed when I realized that the copy I had ordered wasn't going to arrive until the begining of May. While returning some books she'd borrowed, Darcie offered to loan me the Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary to read while I waited for my copy to arrive. I loved it! Brandon Mull is a fantastic author. He tells his stories so well- his dragons are expecially imaginative. I highly recommed his books.

Spring Break- part two

Columbus Zoo -March27, 2009

We're prairie dogs! Kalia slept through most of our visit.

Tristan took a walk down memory lane when he saw this goat that resembled Billy, a former pet. The North America section holds a pretty sweet petting area that I can't wait for Kalia to experience.


This little guy was entertaining to watch. I think he's only a few months old.

Go Wolverines!

This bird has the prettiest song. It took me about ten minutes to locate it. I never would have found it if there had been leaves on those branches.

As we approached the Asian exhibit we overheard other guest talking about a new baby animal. Inside of the building we discovered that an Asian elephant had given birth about an hour and a half before to a boy. There was a small group of people staring through the Sun Bear's exhibit. Tristan was able to record a video with our camcorder and I took this still frame from the video. We thought it was pretty cool!
