She has her two bottom teeth and will likely get her top lateral incisors next. She's had swelling there for a while, but she is a slow teether. With the runny nose she's had this week I predict they'll peek through some time next week.
Kalia has been doing much better with finger foods. I'm still giving her the purees when I don't have the patience or time for her to self feed for a half hour. It seems like she spends most of her time eating now days because it takes her so long. She seems to eat a ton without getting full. I usually stop feeding her before she stops eating. Though she must have gotten enough to not complain when I take the food away. Our next adventure will be to start using a cup and drinking whole milk. I've given her a sippy and she doesn't seem to keen on the idea. Yesterday at her WIC appointment we got a new cup with a screw on top that has holes around the rim to let some but not all the liquid out. Her first try most of the water went down her front. The water she did get in her mouth she didn't seem to like. We'll keep practicing. At my appointment the nutritionist mentioned that they want to see kids weened off bottles to cups when they are a year old. I think it might take us a bit longer. Kalia seems to like to take her time learning the more physical things. However, she does seem quite interested in signing. I've taught her the signs for milk, please, bear, cat, dog. She's done fairly well with milk. She picked up please right away and will sign it as soon as she hears the word. The same goes with bear, however it's a off and on thing.
She loves to wave bye bye to people. She loves the attention people give her. She smiles back when people start talking to her. Recently she started the shy smile as she leans into me. She'll tilt her head as if to say "aren't I so cute?" We must agree.
So much of the day I find myself grinning and thinking my child is the cutest in the whole world. Ever mother goes through that. This week her cutest new thing is actually crawling. Wednesday she started pushing up on her hands and knees and moving forward. It reminds me of the Aristocats when they are on the bridge playing train. The way they shuffle forward in imitation of the train is similar to Kalia crawling. Though she watches the floor. It really is entertaining to see. She prefers the faster mode of army crawl to really get places.
We've also been working on balance. When she's standing, I'll only hold one hand for her to walk. She does the best when she's set on getting somewhere, like where the cat is. If she's thinking about walking she has troubles. It's much easier for her to just do then think about doing it. She's working on pulling up on things. She's been trying to pull her self to a standing position from her stomach. She gets really frustrated when it doesn't work. She is persistent in trying and will keep working until she gets her knees under her. Standing is much easier from that position. She's still working on catching the concept.
Our little girl is a happy little thing. She smiles and laughs. She loves to play with her ball and will roll it back and forth. She loves to chase after it and won't require a playmate to be entertained. She's easy going and doesn't get upset very easily. She's adventurous and will venture into the dark rooms of the apartment without fear. I'm glad for a ground floor apartment as I'm sure the stairs would be a huge attraction. The cat has her attention most days and Kalia remembers the hiding places. It's amazing. Life with an 11 month old is never-ending fun and discovery.
